FYS tweet my research paper by dobeezy
I am doing very well on my paper. I have done some extensive research to figure out the effects that forms of new media have on students.
November 12, 2009, 10:36 pm - [1]
I have worked on my paper and gotten about two pages done. I haven't fully developed everything I want to include in my research paper.
November 12, 2009, 10:37 pm - [2]
I just have basketball practice on Saturday so afterwards I will dedicate the rest of my time on the weekend to completing my essay.
November 12, 2009, 10:37 pm - [3]
First off my thesis statement may not be fully developed at the moment.
November 12, 2009, 10:38 pm - [4]
?Facebook and other forms of new media are a distraction for students, and have a negative influence on academic success in the classroom.?
November 12, 2009, 10:39 pm - [5]
I will also compare and contrast the information that I gather from both perspectives.
November 12, 2009, 10:39 pm - [6]
My research paper will also be somewhat of a combination of both an analytical and argumentative paper.
November 12, 2009, 10:39 pm - [7]
I will analyze the apparent effects of social media, and also argue for the aspect that I do believe it is a disturbance for academics.
November 12, 2009, 10:40 pm - [8]
Through my research I have found many statistics that with help in further supporting my thesis statement.
November 12, 2009, 10:40 pm - [9]
At first I was simply going to discuss how Facebook can have an effect on academics.
November 12, 2009, 10:40 pm - [10]
A study ?found that Facebook users had GPAs between 3.0 and 3.5 compared to non-users who had GPAs between 3.5 and 4.0? (Osborne).
November 12, 2009, 10:41 pm - [11]
In the same experiment it was concluded that social media users spend usually less than five hours studying a week.
November 12, 2009, 10:42 pm - [12]
Where as non- users spent anywhere from five to eleven hours of studying a week on average.
November 12, 2009, 10:42 pm - [13]
This was one study done by some students at Ohio State University and Ohio Dominican University.
November 12, 2009, 10:42 pm - [14]
I found this to be both interesting and important information to include within my paper.
November 12, 2009, 10:43 pm - [15]
Following this I found some more important facts I’ll be sure to include in my paper.
November 12, 2009, 10:43 pm - [16]
I then also realized it would be much more beneficial to cover other new media topics beside just Facebook.
November 12, 2009, 10:43 pm - [17]
So, the direction I am going in is to focus my topic on other types of new media.
November 12, 2009, 10:44 pm - [18]
This includes:Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Youtube, and others that effect students academic performance both in high school and college.
November 12, 2009, 10:45 pm - [19]
I will mainly focus on how it effects college students however.
November 12, 2009, 10:45 pm - [20]
I will discuss things such as, how many hours people spend on these websites, and which ones they prefer most.
November 12, 2009, 10:46 pm - [21]
Also, the correlation between new media and how they affect grades and how their time is spent.
November 12, 2009, 10:46 pm - [22]
Within the main content of my research paper I will include information from both sides, but obviously support one side more than the other.
November 12, 2009, 10:46 pm - [23]
The side I am taking is that new media is definitely a distraction for students.
November 12, 2009, 10:47 pm - [24]
To support this I have information from various studies that have been conducted.
November 12, 2009, 10:47 pm - [25]
Also, for my interview and/ or own research experiment, I am going to take a poll.
November 12, 2009, 10:47 pm - [26]
Along with my poll I will interview people by using Facebook and ask them if they think it is a distraction.
November 12, 2009, 10:48 pm - [27]
This information will further prove or disprove my thesis.
November 12, 2009, 10:48 pm - [28]
The bulk of my research will come online.
November 12, 2009, 10:48 pm - [29]
In part because new media is a relatively new topic, especially concerning its effects.
November 12, 2009, 10:49 pm - [30]
I will also try to add in some non- online sources as well.
November 12, 2009, 10:49 pm - [31]
It is my hope that I can fully support my thesis.
November 12, 2009, 10:57 pm - [32]
It is my hope that I can fully support my thesis.
November 12, 2009, 10:57 pm - [32]
Although I have done research, I will still need to find more places that can support my topic.
November 12, 2009, 10:58 pm - [33]
And not only support, but I want to include statistical information, since that is the best physical evidence I can present.
November 12, 2009, 10:59 pm - [34]
However, the correlation between studies done and whether it does effect academics or not is highly subjective.
November 12, 2009, 10:59 pm - [35]
Some people believe there is no relationship what so ever between the two.
November 12, 2009, 11:00 pm - [36]
This may be true in some ways but not in others.
November 12, 2009, 11:01 pm - [37]
On going research will continue to be conducted to further support new media's negative aspect.
November 12, 2009, 11:01 pm - [38]
Until then we will just have to rely on the statistical support that has been proven.
November 12, 2009, 11:02 pm - [39]
In conclusion, I am hoping that my research paper will add great insight to others.
November 12, 2009, 11:02 pm - [40]
And also reveal the negative side that social media has caused in regards to academics.
