Tweet My Paper for FYS by twisters_mg
When I first received this assignment I had no clue as to what I was going to write about.
November 12, 2009, 8:14 pm - [1]
However, that weekend I went home and saw my brother Jon and then I started to think.
November 12, 2009, 8:15 pm - [2]
Jon is a health six year old who spends little time on the computer, however he still knows how to work the computer and play games.
November 12, 2009, 8:17 pm - [3]
I started to think of how young Jon was yet he knew how to use a computer, what would happen if Jon wasn't smart about his computer use.
November 12, 2009, 8:21 pm - [4]
Hence the topic of my paper, that young children who spend too much time on the internet are often unhealth both mentaly and physically.
November 12, 2009, 8:22 pm - [5]
The computer is a wonderful tool, but when abused to can cause all sorts of problems for a still developing child.
November 12, 2009, 8:23 pm - [6]
Problems like social disorders, and obesity from lack of exercise and the ever present threat of addiction.
November 12, 2009, 8:24 pm - [7]
Not all threats were to health either, but threats like online bullies and chat room predators, that could be a threat to a child well being.
November 12, 2009, 8:28 pm - [8]
The fact is that 82% of children use the internet without adult supervision, which puts them at serious risk.
November 12, 2009, 8:30 pm - [9]
Often times children aren't the only ones who are caught up in technology, the parents lose focus too and spend hours on the internet.
November 12, 2009, 8:31 pm - [10]
Because parents too much time on the internet is causes their children to see and spend just as much time on the Internet and worse.
November 12, 2009, 8:33 pm - [11]
Children need lots of interaction with their parents and because of the computer their not getting it.
November 12, 2009, 8:33 pm - [12]
This lack of attentiveness on the parents part cause the child to turn to a heap of plastic for the attention the parents don't provide.
November 12, 2009, 8:37 pm - [13]
The child begins to believe that the computer and all it has to offer can in fact complete their lives, and is all they need.
November 12, 2009, 8:40 pm - [14]
Children have so much dependency on the computer they see no need for living, breathing friends.
November 12, 2009, 8:41 pm - [15]
The child then, in fact, develops a social disorder, because he has no idea of what it means to truly interact with their peers.
November 12, 2009, 8:42 pm - [16]
Not being able so socialize is just the tip of the iceburg, the other, most immediate problem, is physical health.
November 12, 2009, 8:44 pm - [17]
Spending hours on end on the Internet puts a child at serious risk for obesity and much, much more.
November 12, 2009, 8:44 pm - [18]
The child is also at risk for damaging their eyes and repeated stress fractures.
November 12, 2009, 8:45 pm - [19]
Children, especially at the ages from 2-12, need a great deal of exercise, regular exersise promotes both a healthly life style and growth.
November 12, 2009, 8:47 pm - [20]
The best way for a child to exercise is to have fun with friends and family, play games like tag and basketball.
November 12, 2009, 8:48 pm - [21]
Exercise also gives a child the chance to interact with their physical enviornment and the chance to learn what their physical limits are.
November 12, 2009, 8:50 pm - [22]
In all reality a child can't possibly learn what fresh air, and flowers smell and feel like by sitting in front of a computer screen.
November 12, 2009, 8:51 pm - [23]
It's absolutely vital tha children exercise every day, for both physical health and so that they simply have the chance to explore.
November 12, 2009, 9:00 pm - [24]
Another threat to children on the Internet, is a common threat for everyone, Internet stalkers, bullies and predators.
November 12, 2009, 9:00 pm - [25]
Internet predators search for the perfect chat room to pick up the easiest targets and then convince their prey to meet with them.
November 12, 2009, 9:09 pm - [26]
Many child molesters, and felons circle internet chat rooms looking for the perfect oppertunity to strike.
November 12, 2009, 9:10 pm - [27]
Internet bullies are another major problem, as instant messaging makes it hard for their victims to find refuge and peace while online.
November 12, 2009, 9:11 pm - [28]
In the past bullying was limited to the school and home was like a child's own sanctuary.
November 12, 2009, 9:12 pm - [29]
Now no such escape and temporary peace is possible as in this day and age verbal abuse for a student is only a click away.
November 12, 2009, 9:14 pm - [30]
What's worse is that while at school bullying could only go so far without be notices, online there is no limit to how many tormentors exist
November 12, 2009, 9:18 pm - [31]
Online any number of bullies can log on and torment a child, which can seriously undermine a child's self-confidence and ability to trust.
November 12, 2009, 9:21 pm - [32]
Many people don't quite see the toll that online bullying has on a child, but if left without intervention a child can go into depression.
November 12, 2009, 9:23 pm - [33]
Things like bullies and online predators can ruin a child's view on life and all it has to offer.
November 12, 2009, 9:24 pm - [34]
The last bit of information I have for people to consider is this, how different things could be if parents just cared a little more.
November 12, 2009, 9:28 pm - [35]
If parents would just take the initiative to regulate how much time their children spend online and what children do online.
November 12, 2009, 9:30 pm - [36]
Instead parents are either too busy to notice or they are to busy on the internet themselves.
November 12, 2009, 9:32 pm - [37]
Parents need to get their priorities in order, and see that their child should come before everything else.
November 12, 2009, 9:33 pm - [38]
Take the time play with their children, ask them how their day was, give their children the attention they need.
November 12, 2009, 9:35 pm - [39]
That way a child won't feel such a strong need to turn to technology for comfort and attention that should come naturally from their parents
November 12, 2009, 9:38 pm - [40]
Parents need to take a step back and see that in allowing their children to spend so much time on the internet that they are hurting them.
November 12, 2009, 9:43 pm - [41]
Internet has come such a long way in such a short time, it's almost scary.
November 12, 2009, 9:45 pm - [42]
Yet the Internet has so much to offer, in learning and advancing technology.
November 12, 2009, 9:45 pm - [43]
It's simply that children don't use that technology properly and end up abusing it in a way that hurts themselves.
November 12, 2009, 9:48 pm - [44]
A young child's mind needs to be nurtured with all the care that one gives a new born.
November 12, 2009, 9:51 pm - [45]
If I child spends all day absorbing games and rude material of the Internet how could anyone ever expect them to reach their full potential.
