FYS Research Paper by c_dos_run

Research papers are supposed to be elaborated and difficult to complete. This one is quite complicated and hard to finish.

November 10, 2009, 12:44 pm - [1]

Iíve done a research paper before; last year for English. The difference is last yearís required 5 pages instead of 10.

November 10, 2009, 12:44 pm - [2]

Even then I thought it was hard, but comparing it to the one Iím doing for FYS, I wish I was doing the research paper for English.

November 10, 2009, 12:44 pm - [3]

At first, I was lost on what topic to write about. I searched ?Internet personality? but I came up with useless results.

November 10, 2009, 12:45 pm - [4]

But while chatting with a friend on Facebook, I came up with a topic ? is the Internet changing socialization?

November 10, 2009, 12:45 pm - [5]

The first part of doing a research paper is the outline. You figure out what to discuss in your paper by doing research.

November 10, 2009, 12:45 pm - [6]

The research was more relevant for this topic, but I still had to come up with sub-topics to discuss, thinking before researching.

November 10, 2009, 12:46 pm - [7]

The problem wasnít that I didnít know how to write an outline; I somewhat had trouble coming up with sub-topics and information.

November 10, 2009, 12:46 pm - [8]

So I began thinking about media-related things we discussed in class. E-mail, social networks, Internet personality ? it all came to me.

November 10, 2009, 12:46 pm - [9]

The outline was finished and out of the way, but the worst part of all came next ? actually writing the research paper. I dreaded it.

November 10, 2009, 12:47 pm - [10]

The first thing I do is look at the research handout. It states to use APA Style. I went to the Web site and tried to follow the style.

November 10, 2009, 12:47 pm - [11]

I also used a documentation book I received in English class last year to do our research paper. Good thing I kept it!

November 10, 2009, 12:47 pm - [12]

In my paper, Iím discussing and analyze communication, personality change, and effects of Internet socialization.

November 10, 2009, 12:48 pm - [13]

Thereís two parts to communication: new ways to communicate and who you communicate with on the Internet.

November 10, 2009, 12:48 pm - [14]

Those parts will have sub-categories: e-mail, social networks, offline friends, and online friends.

November 10, 2009, 12:48 pm - [15]

E-mail is a big thing; itís changed the way we send messages.

November 10, 2009, 12:49 pm - [16]

E-mail has made snail mail almost obsolete.

November 10, 2009, 12:49 pm - [17]

Social networks have positive and negative outcomes with socialization.

November 10, 2009, 12:49 pm - [18]

Social networks like Facebook are a good way to stay in touch with friends and maybe meet new people.

November 10, 2009, 12:49 pm - [19]

But you miss some aspects of conversing with a friend face-to-face.

November 10, 2009, 12:50 pm - [20]

On the Internet, itís easier and better to find new people with similar interests as you.

November 10, 2009, 12:50 pm - [21]

You can even find your soul mate too through the Internet with dating sites like eHarmony.

November 10, 2009, 12:50 pm - [22]

Personality change has two parts: shy people become more social, and nice people turn mean online.

November 10, 2009, 12:51 pm - [23]

The Internet helps develop social skills with shy people.

November 10, 2009, 12:51 pm - [24]

There isnít face-to-face conversing, which makes the person less nervous.

November 10, 2009, 12:51 pm - [25]

You can also make changes to what you say online. This also makes the shy individual less nervous.

November 10, 2009, 12:51 pm - [26]

People who are nice offline can be vicious and foul online.

November 10, 2009, 12:52 pm - [27]

This can be caused by anonymity. You can be whoever you want to be and act anyway you want without consequences.

November 10, 2009, 12:52 pm - [28]

This can also be considered split personality.

November 10, 2009, 12:52 pm - [29]

The Web isnít the only place anonymity happens; it happens in daily life too, like when you get into road rage.

November 10, 2009, 12:53 pm - [30]

Effects of Internet socialization has 3 parts: 1st part ? change patterns in life, but not social patterns.

November 10, 2009, 12:53 pm - [31]

2nd part ? positive social results in everyday life.

November 10, 2009, 12:53 pm - [32]

3rd part ? may weaken social ties but can expand and strengthen social ties.

November 10, 2009, 12:53 pm - [33]

The Internet is making socialization easier with all these different ways to keep in contact with others.

November 10, 2009, 12:54 pm - [34]

The Internet isnít changing socialization. Good and bad things that happen in offline social situations happen online too.

November 10, 2009, 12:54 pm - [35]

Youíd still have a regular conversation with a friend, but instead of talking, you type.

November 10, 2009, 12:54 pm - [36]

But bullying can still happen online. Even from people you donít know.

November 10, 2009, 12:55 pm - [37]

The Internet hasnít changed socialization in the ways of communication and connecting with others.

November 10, 2009, 12:55 pm - [38]

But instead, changing the method in which we communicate.

November 10, 2009, 12:55 pm - [39]

Like using cell phones and computers.

November 10, 2009, 12:55 pm - [40]

As of writing it, Iíve been doing the same pattern: type a little bit, save and exit, type a little bit, save and exit. Itís difficult.

November 10, 2009, 12:56 pm - [41]

I mean, I do like to write; creatively, that is. Iím just not big on anything research-related.

November 10, 2009, 12:56 pm - [42]

I try to do a little bit each day so it isnít a big load of work to do.

November 10, 2009, 12:56 pm - [43]

I have to admit ? doing this tweet paper has helped with what to discuss and write about in my research paper.

November 10, 2009, 12:56 pm - [44]

Iím still not sure what to do about the multi-media presentation. Iíll probably use PowerPoint. Itís just easier.
