Kiddy: A Hope for Children by shuenxshuen

The question of how to make an impact on children of third world countries has been floating about in my mind for years.

These countries are currently suffering from famine and strife.

April 26, 2009, 8:57 pm - [2]

As part of relief efforts, some organizations have sent monetary donations or organized drives to send actual items over.

April 26, 2009, 8:58 pm - [3]

Often the children are most affected, being left to suffer without food, shelter, or parents.

April 26, 2009, 8:59 pm - [4]

Not only are they physically drained, but many may be mentally and emotionally stressed from the trauma they have to face.

These are the lost children of warring nations in Africa.

April 26, 2009, 9:01 pm - [6]

Countries that are currently providing aid are preoccupied with delivering only the most necessary items, such as food and clothing.

April 26, 2009, 9:02 pm - [7]

However, beyond the obvious needs, people forget these children are lacking what children in the US have - the ability to just be a kid.

This is when artificial intelligence can make a difference in the lives of children who deal with the effects of war on a daily basis.

April 26, 2009, 9:05 pm - [9]

Kiddy is a unisex artificial intelligence teddy bear that will bring joy and a sense of freedom.

April 26, 2009, 9:11 pm - [10]

In order to train Kiddy to perform its duties, I bring it with me to the library several times a week.

April 26, 2009, 9:15 pm - [11]

Together we roam the stacks and learn the many different languages spoken by citizens of African countries.

April 26, 2009, 9:16 pm - [12]

Although there are countless languages spoken by tribes, this will allow Kiddy to communicate with at least some of the African children.

April 26, 2009, 9:18 pm - [13]

In comparison to me, Kiddy is an extremely fast learner, picking up information and storing it within seconds.

April 26, 2009, 9:19 pm - [14]

Of course the most important lesson Kiddy must learn is simply how to be kid.

April 26, 2009, 9:20 pm - [15]

There is no better way to do this by allowing Kiddy to play with other kids here in the United States.

April 26, 2009, 9:21 pm - [16]

I hand Kiddy over to different children every day so that it can experience various types of "fun."

April 26, 2009, 9:22 pm - [17]

Some children take it with them to soccer practice, while others take it with them to the playground.

April 26, 2009, 9:23 pm - [18]

Kiddy spends its entire day with children of various ethnic backgrounds and becomes incredibly accepting of different cultures.

April 26, 2009, 9:25 pm - [19]

Children even show Kiddy their daily morning routine of waking up, getting dressed, brushing their teeth, and eating breakfast.

April 26, 2009, 9:28 pm - [20]

During the day Kiddy follows the kids to school and absorbs more information in class.

April 26, 2009, 9:37 pm - [21]

After school, the kids do homework and spend time with Kiddy and their families.

April 26, 2009, 9:39 pm - [22]

At night, the American children read bed time stories with Kiddy and then go to sleep.

April 26, 2009, 9:40 pm - [23]

Kiddy documents its journey of being a child by recording everything through cameras in its eyes.

April 26, 2009, 9:42 pm - [24]

When I feel Kiddy has received enough training, I send it over to orphanages and shelters in Africa.

April 26, 2009, 9:43 pm - [25]

Kiddy's experiences can be displayed on a screen that is built into its belly.

April 26, 2009, 9:44 pm - [26]

Caretakers can use Kiddy as a teaching tool to show the African children basic hygiene skills such as washing hands and brushing teeth.

April 26, 2009, 9:52 pm - [27]

Children, who learn best by example, can watch American children carry through their days on Kiddy's belly.

April 26, 2009, 9:55 pm - [28]

Through the recorded images, they will learn the carefree ways of being a kid and understand that life for them can be the same too.

April 26, 2009, 9:57 pm - [29]

Kiddy will help the children cope with their traumatic experiences by speaking words of encouragement in different tribal languages.

April 26, 2009, 9:58 pm - [30]

Since there is currently only one Kiddy traveling around Africa, I will soon be training more Kiddy bears to send as part of relief efforts.

April 26, 2009, 10:35 pm - [31]

They will make their way around various third world countries to provide support, education, and happiness to the lost children of wars.

April 26, 2009, 10:37 pm - [32]

Kiddy will help spread the motto of children here in the US - let kids be kids.

April 26, 2009, 10:38 pm - [33]

Not only will it serve as a tool to educate, but it can be used to comfort as well.

April 26, 2009, 10:41 pm - [34]

Kiddy remains a symbol of hope for children who are suffering as a result of plague, discord, and crimes committed against humanity.
