Say Hello To My Little Friend by sca17

One sunny day, not too long ago, I woke up and to my utter surprise, a wrapped gift was waiting for me at the foot of my bed.

Much to my surprise, a robotic teddy bear was enclosed within the package.

April 26, 2009, 9:57 pm - [2]

While the bear came with basic functions such as voice recognition and mobility, there was room for me to "teach" it.

April 26, 2009, 10:27 pm - [3]

So begins the epic tale of myself and Chubbs, my nickname for the teddy bear.

April 27, 2009, 7:27 am - [4]

To begin this story, one must know some background information about myself. The first bit of necessary information is my name, Sam.

April 27, 2009, 7:29 am - [5]

I grew up in a huge family so, naturally, I am a pretty social guy. I also enjoy strawberry milkshakes and long walks on the beach.

April 27, 2009, 7:34 am - [6]

I also am a huge sports fan with football being my favorite sport. Go Patriots! Because of this, Chubbs will always wear a Brady jersey.

April 27, 2009, 7:36 am - [7]

Getting back on track, I recently was given a robotic teddy bear capable of learning. My goal is to make it into my sports information tool.

April 27, 2009, 7:41 am - [8]

This process will require multiple steps and creative thinking on my part because I do not want its answers to sound like computer answers.

April 27, 2009, 8:27 am - [9]

I want the answers to sound like any normal individual is answering. In essence, my task is to attempt to humanize a robotic, computer mind.

April 27, 2009, 8:28 am - [10]

My task is daunting, the execution of my plan will require a massive amount of time commitment.

April 27, 2009, 8:32 am - [11]

I will first begin by compiling a list of the greatest sports moments in history. I plan on using the world-wide-web to do a the search.

April 27, 2009, 8:41 am - [12]

There should be information on just about every classical sports moment and there have also been several movies made about certain events.

April 27, 2009, 8:46 am - [13]

Once I have put all the data together, I will do a wire transfer of the information through Chubbs' data transfer plug.

April 27, 2009, 8:49 am - [14]

Now that he has all the sports history, we can move on to the challenge of keeping up with day to day sporting news.

April 27, 2009, 8:51 am - [15]

This especially daunting because the only way Chubbs will be able to know sporting news is if he is equiped with the a powerful WIFI card.

April 27, 2009, 8:56 am - [16]

He would have to be able to connect to the internet at any given time or place.

April 27, 2009, 8:59 am - [17]

I hope all you twitters can understand the complexity of this problem. There are still many areas in the world missing WIFI connection.

April 27, 2009, 9:02 am - [18]

However, using a WIFI card combine with a new satellite internet card from Microsoft, his internet capabilities should be nearly 100 %.

April 27, 2009, 9:15 am - [19]

Now Chubbs has all the information he needs, its time to make him sound like a human.

April 27, 2009, 9:18 am - [20]

The reason behind this thought is that humans respond much differently to other humans than they do towards artificial intelligence.

April 27, 2009, 9:19 am - [21]

By making Chubbs more human, I will be dramatically increasing his potential public appeal.

April 27, 2009, 9:20 am - [22]

For this specific issue, I have written a computer program with 10 of the most normal human responses to any given combination of questions.

April 27, 2009, 9:22 am - [23]

In order to avoid confusion, that is 10 responses for each situation.

April 27, 2009, 9:22 am - [24]

This computer program, which will be transferred through Chubb's neural connection to the web, has been tested and does clinically work.

April 27, 2009, 9:24 am - [25]

Now that the work is done, it is time to test my work and see if what I have done is worthy of recognition.

April 27, 2009, 9:26 am - [26]

Fortunately, I have been invited to a Super Bowl part featuring my favorite team, the New England Patriots.

April 27, 2009, 9:28 am - [27]

I feel this is a perfect opportunity for Chubbs so I decide to take him along to watch the game with me.

April 27, 2009, 9:28 am - [28]

Remember, I am 19 years old, so imagine the sheer wonder/frightening looks I receive as I enter my friend's home with a teddy bear in tow.

April 27, 2009, 9:29 am - [29]

After I make the introductions, I get something to eat and start talking football with the guys.

April 27, 2009, 9:30 am - [30]

This is a mistake because inevitably, we end up arguing over football facts and better teams. This is where Chubb's true value comes forth.

April 27, 2009, 9:31 am - [31]

He immediately heads straight for the commotion and puts an end to our disagreement by citing several examples defending my assertion.

April 27, 2009, 9:32 am - [32]

Upon hearing this information, my friend is dumbfounded and asks how a teddy bear would know such a thing.

April 27, 2009, 9:33 am - [33]

I explain to him the process and he begins to laugh in wonder as to the inventiveness I have shown in this creation.

April 27, 2009, 9:35 am - [34]

He cries out to me, "It's amazing." I agree with him and return to the gathering of people.

April 27, 2009, 9:36 am - [35]

This time around, I introduce Chubbs saying "Say hello to my little friend."
