My Super Intelligent Bear by jag188

If I were to have a bear blessed with AI, I would start by naming him Al. Al is a good, strong name for a bear, no one messes with an Al.

April 26, 2010, 2:04 pm - [1]

Al would be a boy bear, as there is no real reason not to make him one gender or the other.

April 26, 2010, 2:05 pm - [2]

He would have feelings, and he would be very compassionate and smart. He would be able to help people with their problems most of the time.

April 26, 2010, 2:05 pm - [3]

Seeing as he would be my bear, I would educate him in the world of Magic: The Gathering. He would be able to create decks and to play.

April 26, 2010, 2:07 pm - [4]

I would also allow him to have a program called Magic Workstation so if I was not with him I could play against him from afar.

April 26, 2010, 2:11 pm - [5]

This bear would learn many languages, and would be able to teach them to me as well. I would use this bear to learn more than ever before.

April 26, 2010, 2:13 pm - [6]

I would set many things up for Al, including his own email, his own AIM screen-name, possibly a Facebook if he is really good.

April 26, 2010, 2:14 pm - [7]

This bear would be a new addition to my life, and I would need to accept that. In order to do so I would need to see use for Al.

April 26, 2010, 2:17 pm - [8]

The more I think about it, having a bear with a limitless memory would be a pretty cool thing if I took good care of him.

April 26, 2010, 2:18 pm - [9]

Since this bear would be able to learn things from its surroundings, I would need to censor some things so it would not learn everything.

April 26, 2010, 2:19 pm - [10]

Because of how controversial religion is, I would definitely censor those websites and keep him from being able to access them.

April 26, 2010, 2:20 pm - [11]

My reasoning behind this is that I want him to have my personal beliefs.

April 26, 2010, 2:21 pm - [12]

My reasoning behind this is that I want him to have my personal beliefs.

April 26, 2010, 2:21 pm - [12]

I do not want to get into situations where I need to fight with my own bear about something, so I would rather not talk about it at all.

April 26, 2010, 2:23 pm - [13]

Seeing as this bear would be with me a lot of the time, I would want a way for us to talk to one another without conflict.

April 26, 2010, 2:24 pm - [14]

Talking about religion with me naturally creates conflict, and therefore I would not want him to have any knowledge of the subject.

April 26, 2010, 2:25 pm - [15]

I would probably find a way to mod the bear so he could project images from his eyes, but this is just a side project.

April 26, 2010, 2:26 pm - [16]

As for finding a way to educate the bear, I would not just dump information into his head. I would use a different approach.

April 26, 2010, 2:27 pm - [17]

I would use a hands on approach for teaching the bear, but I would not include all of the knowledge into this teaching.

April 26, 2010, 2:28 pm - [18]

I might try to implant the English language into his brain and start off of that, unless that does not work out as well as I hope.

April 26, 2010, 2:28 pm - [19]

Teaching the bear his first language will be the hardest thing to do of all, and I would need to experiment with how to do it.

April 26, 2010, 2:29 pm - [20]

Assuming I manage to teach him to speak, more or less, I would then see if there are some things I could just download into him.

April 26, 2010, 2:29 pm - [21]

Certain things like the Magic: The Gathering rule book might be able to just be placed into his brain and may make sense to him.

April 26, 2010, 2:30 pm - [22]

If that does not work however, I would need to teach him the basic rules of the game and then have him read the rules himself.

April 26, 2010, 2:31 pm - [23]

However, doing it in this manner would take considerably more time than just dumping it all into his memory, but might work better anyway.

April 26, 2010, 2:31 pm - [24]

Teaching Al social conventions will be considerably more difficult than anything else, short of teaching him how to speak.

April 26, 2010, 2:33 pm - [25]

Along with social conventions I would need to sit down and teach him about emotions, not just his own but those of others.

April 26, 2010, 2:34 pm - [26]

It would be crucial that I teach him how to see the emotions of others, or he might say something that is out of place and hurtful.

April 26, 2010, 2:35 pm - [27]

The bear would be a handful in the beginning, but maybe after some time he will become better and less of a hands on project.

April 26, 2010, 2:35 pm - [28]

Eventually having a self-sufficient bear would be a great thing, but it will take a lot of work to be able to get to that point.

April 26, 2010, 2:36 pm - [29]

I would probably teach the bear how to take care of emergencies and to watch over other people, and to store everything that he hears.

April 26, 2010, 2:37 pm - [30]

Being able to listen to stories that people tell, the way they tell them, would be a great thing to be able to do.

April 26, 2010, 2:38 pm - [31]

If Al sat down and spoke with my grandmother and remembered her stories it would an amazing thing.

April 26, 2010, 2:38 pm - [32]

The thing I would ask Al to do the most would be to sit down and be able to just listen to people. I would want him to be there for people.

April 26, 2010, 2:41 pm - [33]

At any rate however, Al would be around to learn. Teaching Al about how to learn would be the most important thing I would teach him.

April 26, 2010, 2:43 pm - [34]

Having a bear that is brilliant means nothing unless he can teach you something as well, so I would want him to be able to learn on his own.

April 26, 2010, 2:43 pm - [35]

I want to come home one day and have him teach me something new, or to talk about something wild and abstract. I want him to be alive.

April 26, 2010, 2:44 pm - [36]

No matter what his interests may be, I want him to love learning, and that is what my main plan for him will always be.
